چکیده

This paper is aimed at giving structural designers guidance on how to make use of elastic site-specific response spectra for the dynamic modal analysis a structure in support its design. The pushover an RC building forming part non-linear static procedure (that can be used predict seismic demand without relying code-stipulated default R factor) also presented. Seismic structures based help achieve more optimised, and cost-effective, design compared conventional approach employing spectrum model stipulated by code different site classes. Currently, methodology only adopted major projects which enough resources are available engage experts who skilled operating procedure; thus, engineering practice still limited despite merits procedure. Deriving requires database representative ground motion records developed. Extra analytical tasks undertaken include processing bore log data, analyses, selection/scaling bedrock accelerograms input into analyses. Guidelines implementing this currently lacking. To promote wide adoption design, article presents developing required spectra, as well guidelines applying these analyses linear, or nonlinear, models building. Non-linear accomplished dealing with macroscopic illustrated case study.

Response Spectra of Structures under Subway Induced Vibrations

Passing underground trains induce vibrations transmitted to the ground surface and the nearby structures. Ordinarily, these vibrations do not result in structural damage but can harm nonstructural elements and disturb the occupants. These effects are more pronounced when evaluating buildings like hospitals, laboratories, museums, etc., and their assessment is an important design need. To respon...

Seismic Response of Building Structures with Sliding Non-structural Elements

Interaction between a structure under base excitation and heavy non-structural elements that it supports is significant in the seismic analysis and design of the structure. Heavy non-structural elements may slide/rock under base excitation, and this dynamic action affects the seismic behavior of the supporting structure. Hence, in this study, a numerical model was presented to describe the seis...

Employing Nonlinear Response History Analysis of ASCE 7-16 on a Benchmark Tall Building

ASCE 7-16 has provided a comprehensive platform for the performance-based design of tall buildings. The core of the procedure is based on nonlinear response history analysis of the structure subjected to recorded or simulated ground motions. This study investigates consistency in the ASCE 7-16 requirements regarding the use of different types of ground motions. For this purpose performance of a...

Investigating The Seismic Response of Structural Walls Using Nonlinear Static and Incremental Dynamic Analyses

Structural walls commonly used as efficient structural elements to resist lateral and vertical loads. Diverse performance of bearing wall system in past earthquakes, motivates investigation on the adequacy of current seismic design provision for these walls. This study considers seismic performance of model walls of bearing wall and building frame systems designed as ordinary and special struct...
